PDH Hours Required
Professional Engineers in Tennessee are mandated to complete 24 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) every two years to maintain licensure.
Renewal Dates
Renewal periods are determined by the date of initial licensure, individualizing each professional's deadlines and ensuring a smooth, staggered renewal process across the state.
PDH Carryover
Notably, for renewals preceding January 1, 2023, professionals can carry forward up to 12 surplus PDHs into the subsequent cycle. This provision will cease from 2023 onwards, underscoring the importance of strategic planning in professional development activities.
Board Pre-Approval
The Tennessee State Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners asserts its non-involvement in pre-approving courses or providers, placing the onus on engineers to ascertain the suitability and compliance of their chosen educational activities.
Approved Content
Content must be principally technical, ethical, or managerial, directly pertinent to the engineering profession. A notable stipulation necessitates that over half of the PDHs (specifically, 13 out of 24) directly relate to matters of health, safety, welfare, and technical proficiency, reaffirming the engineer's commitment to societal and occupational well-being.
Approved Activities
The Board recognizes internet-based courses as a legitimate means of acquiring PDHs, a nod towards modern convenience and the diverse formats of contemporary professional education.
Notes
Engineers are required to retain records of their PDH completion for four years. Our platform facilitates this by offering instant access to certificates upon course or webinar completion, and secure online storage of completion certificates for a minimum of ten years, accessible anytime through your account.
