How many PDH does a Pennsylvania PE need?
Pennsylvania PEs complete 24 PDH units of continuing education in each biennial renewal period. Content must maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge from before licensure, including law and ethics applicable to the profession; practice-building and office-management courses earn no credit.
During each biennial renewal period, a licensee shall complete 24 PDH units of continuing education. 49 Pa. Code § 37.111(a)
When does a Pennsylvania PE license renew?
All Pennsylvania PE licenses renew by September 30 of odd-numbered years, and the 24 PDH must be completed within the two years ending on that date apart from permitted carryover.
Can Pennsylvania PEs carry over PDH?
If engineers accumulate more than the required PDHs during a renewal cycle, up to 12 of these excess hours can be carried over to the next period.
Does the Pennsylvania board pre-approve courses?
The Board does not pre-approve courses or providers. It is the engineer's responsibility to verify the compliance of each course based on the Board's standards.
What content counts toward Pennsylvania PDH?
The focus for CPC credits must be on areas that "maintain, improve, or expand skills and knowledge obtained prior to initial licensure" or develop new skills, including applicable laws and ethics. Courses purely related to practice building or office management are not eligible for credit.
Which activities count in Pennsylvania?

Does CE ordered to fix a shortfall count toward the biennium?
No. CE completed to reactivate a license, correct a deficiency, or satisfy a disciplinary order is in addition to the requirement for the biennium in which it is completed. 49 Pa. Code § 37.111
Can I get an exemption?
For physical disability, illness, or other extenuating circumstances, by written request with documentation; the Board may take 90 days to rule and may extend the deadline instead. 49 Pa. Code § 37.111(e)
