State Requirements
Ohio
Info
Based on your state requirements, on-demand courses are accepted in your state. Our courses are structured to meet NCEES Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) guidelines — the nationally recognized standard for continuing education. Each course includes a final graded assessment and completion certificate, giving you the documentation you need for your state's renewal audit. Engineers are responsible for confirming their specific board requirements.
Info
Credits exceeding 6 PDH per cycle should be earned through "timed and monitored" activities. Our site's courses fall under the "self-paced" category, suitable for up to 6 PDH per cycle.
- PDH Hours Required
- Professional Engineers in Ohio are required to complete 30 PDHs every two years.
- Renewal Dates
- Licenses must be renewed by December 31 in odd-numbered years for all engineers.
- PDH Carryover
- A maximum of 15 PDH can be carried over into the next renewal period.
- Board Pre-Approval
- The Board does not pre-approve providers or courses. Engineers must independently verify that their professional development activities comply with Board standards.
- Approved Content
- Continuing education should be technical, ethical, or managerial, directly related to engineering practice. It's critical to avoid personal development topics. Each renewal period, two of the 30 PDHs must cover engineering ethics or related laws and rules. The Board may request additional information to validate the relevance of managerial courses.
- Approved Activities
- While the Board accepts several activities, including online courses and webinars, there are specific criteria to consider. Online courses must be traceable and verifiable for credit, and all 30 PDHs can be obtained this way. However, technical articles and correspondence courses are limited to 6 PDH per renewal cycle. Webinars also qualify, provided the provider verifies attendance.
- Notes
- For dual licensees, 30 PDHs are required biennially, with credits relevant to each profession. PDH documentation must be retained for four years. Our site simplifies this process by offering instant certificate access upon course or webinar completion. We secure your completion certificates for ten years, accessible anytime online. It's important for Ohio engineers to note that credits exceeding 6 PDH per cycle should be earned through "timed and monitored" activities. Our site's courses fall under the "self-paced" category, suitable for up to 6 PDH per cycle, after which we recommend switching to "timed and monitored" courses.
