How many PDH does a New Hampshire PE need?

New Hampshire PEs obtain at least 30 PDH during each biennial renewal period. There is no mandatory ethics hour; activities may carry technical, ethical, or managerial content as long as they are relevant to engineering practice. Since 2024 all CE is tracked through CE Broker.

Each licensee shall obtain at least 30 professional development hours of approved continuing education courses during the biennial renewal period as a condition of license renewal. Eng 403.01(b)

When does a New Hampshire PE license renew?

Licenses must be renewed by the last day of the licensee's birth month. The renewal year is determined by the year of initial licensure: those obtained in even-numbered years renew in even-numbered years, and those in odd-numbered years renew in odd-numbered years.

Can New Hampshire PEs carry over PDH?

There is a provision for carrying over a maximum of 15 PDHs into the subsequent renewal period, ensuring that excess credits obtained in one term can benefit the next.

If a licensee exceeds the requirement, a maximum of 15 professional development hours may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period. Eng 403.01(c)

Does the New Hampshire board pre-approve courses?

The New Hampshire Board does not pre-approve courses or providers. It is the responsibility of each engineer to ascertain whether an activity meets the Board's standards.

What content counts toward New Hampshire PDH?

Content must be of a technical, ethical, or managerial nature relevant to the practice of engineering. This criterion is meant to encompass a broad spectrum of subjects that contribute to the professional's practice and professional responsibility.

Continuing education activities shall be relevant to the practice of engineering or no credit shall be awarded. Eng 403.05(a)

Which activities count in New Hampshire?

New Hampshire's Board accepts internet-based courses as part of the continuing education requirements. There is no restriction on the number of PDHs that can be obtained through online courses, providing flexibility for professionals.

Other New Hampshire rules to know

It is mandatory for professionals to maintain records of PDH completion for a minimum of 4 years. I live in another state. Whose rules apply?

Non-resident licensees meet their resident jurisdiction's CPD requirement; if that jurisdiction has none, New Hampshire's applies. Eng 403.03

Can I get more time?

A waiver petition filed at least 30 days before the period ends, with documentation and a timetable for completing the deficiency. Eng 403.09

How likely is an audit?

Not less than 3 percent of licensees are randomly selected each year. Eng 403.07(d)
