How many PDH does a Montana PE need?
Montana PEs obtain 30 PDH during each two-year renewal period. There is no mandatory ethics hour; qualifying activities need a clear purpose that maintains, improves, or expands the skills and knowledge relevant to your practice.

When does a Montana PE license renew?
All Montana PE licenses renew on June 30 of even-numbered years, with the renewal window open from May 30. The 30 PDH must be earned in the two-year cycle ending that June 30.

Can Montana PEs carry over PDH?
Up to 15 PDH earned beyond the requirement may be carried into the next renewal period.
If a licensee exceeds the annual requirement in any renewal period, a maximum of 15 PDH units may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period. ARM 24.183.2105
Does the Montana board pre-approve courses?
The Board does not mandate pre-approval for courses or providers. Engineers need to independently verify if the chosen activities satisfy the Board's criteria.
What content counts toward Montana PDH?
Eligible courses must aim to sustain, enhance, or broaden the skills and knowledge related to the engineer's professional practice. While self-study is recognized, it is capped at 10 PDHs per renewal cycle and typically involves structured exploration of new technical information without a final examination.
