PDH Hours Required
Professional Engineers in Montana are required to complete 30 PDHs every two years.
Renewal Dates
For all engineers, the license renewal deadline is June 30 of even-numbered years.
PDH Carryover
Engineers may transfer a maximum of 15 PDHs into the subsequent renewal period.
Board Pre-Approval
The Board does not mandate pre-approval for courses or providers. Engineers need to independently verify if the chosen activities satisfy the Board's criteria.
Approved Content
Eligible courses must aim to sustain, enhance, or broaden the skills and knowledge related to the engineer's professional practice. While self-study is recognized, it is capped at 10 PDHs per renewal cycle and typically involves structured exploration of new technical information without a final examination. Our site's courses, which necessitate passing a quiz for certificate issuance, are exempt from this limitation and not categorized as self-study.
Approved Activities
The Board acknowledges the successful completion of online courses for continuing education credit.
Notes
Engineers holding dual licenses must still meet the 30 PDH requirement biennially, with at least one-third of those hours dedicated to each professional domain. It is essential to keep comprehensive records of PDH completion for a minimum of 3 years. We support this requirement by enabling instant access and printing of certificates after concluding a course or webinar. Rest assured, your certificates of completion are securely stored for at least ten years, accessible anytime through your online account.
