How many PDH does a Mississippi PE need?
Mississippi Professional Engineers need 30 PDH per biennial renewal period under the board rules effective November 21, 2025, which replaced the former 15 PDH per year requirement. At least 1 of those PDH must be ethics training.
Professional Engineers are required to obtain thirty (30) PDHs during every biennial renewal period. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.4.2.a
When does a Mississippi PE license renew?
Licenses expire December 31, and the CPC requirement is measured over the two-year renewal period rather than year by year.
All renewed licenses shall expire on December 31st of their biennial renewal period. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.1
Can Mississippi PEs carry over PDH?
Up to 15 PDH earned beyond the requirement may be carried into the next biennial period. Excess ethics PDH do not carry forward, and hours must be submitted at renewal to count toward carryover.
If a licensee exceeds the requirement in any biennial renewal period, PDHs may be carried forward into the subsequent biennial renewal period as follows: a maximum of fifteen (15) PDHs by a Professional Engineer licensee PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.4.2.f
Does the Mississippi board pre-approve courses?
Rather than restricting engineers with a pre-approved list of courses or providers, the Board allows engineers to choose their professional development activities, trusting them to adhere to the requirements.
The Board does not pre-approve PDHs but does have final authority with respect to approval of courses, credit, PDH value for courses, and other methods of earning credit. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.4
What content counts toward Mississippi PDH?
Eligible courses or activities must have well-defined goals and objectives designed to uphold, advance, or extend professional skills and knowledge related to the practice of engineering. Notably, engineers must undertake at least 1 PDH of ethics training every two years, fostering a commitment to integrity within the profession.

Which activities count in Mississippi?
With no restrictions on the number of hours, online continuing education is accepted, offering flexibility for engineers to develop their skills and knowledge in a manner convenient for their diverse schedules.

No more than 8 PDH obtained in a 24-hour period will be applied. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.4
How do I reinstate a lapsed or retired license?
Obtain one half of the PDH required for a biennial period, including 1 PDH of ethics, and apply to the board. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.7
Do I have to submit hours to carry them over?
Yes. PDH units must be submitted during renewal to be considered for carryover, and excess ethics hours do not carry. PEPLS Rules, Rule 6.4.2.f
