How many PDH does a Maryland PE need?

Professional Engineers in Maryland complete a minimum of 16 PDHs during each two-year license term, with at least 1 of those hours devoted to ethics — either awareness of ethical concerns and conflicts in engineering practice or familiarity with the code of professional conduct, standards of practice, or Maryland engineering regulations.

When does a Maryland PE license renew?

Maryland licenses are issued for a two-year term and expire two years from the date of issuance, so the renewal date is specific to each licensee rather than a shared statewide deadline. The Department of Labor mails a renewal notice roughly 60 days ahead of expiration.

Can Maryland PEs carry over PDH?

Up to 8 of the required 16 PDHs earned in a term may be carried forward as credit toward the following licensing term, giving engineers a cushion when they complete more than the minimum.

Does the Maryland board pre-approve courses?

The Board does not pre-approve individual courses, but coursework must come from an approved CPC sponsor. ABET or regionally accredited academic institutions, national and local professional engineering societies, ACEC, NCEES, and similar organizations are pre-approved as sponsors.

What content counts toward Maryland PDH?

Qualifying programs cover the technical, research, analytical, or design aspects of engineering; laws and regulations applicable to engineering practice in Maryland; engineering-related hardware and software; standards of practice; professional ethics; project management; risk and disaster management; and similar topics that maintain, improve, or expand skills relevant to the licensee's field of practice.

Which activities count in Maryland?

Qualifying programs may be presented live, televised, videotaped, audio taped, online, or through other formats approved by the Board, and there is no cap on the number of hours earned through online study.
