When does an Indiana PE license renew?

The biennium runs from August 1 of an even-numbered year through July 31 of the next even-numbered year, with registrations expiring July 31 in even-numbered years.

Can Indiana PEs carry over PDH?

Up to 15 hours earned beyond the requirement in one biennium may be carried over into the next, rewarding engineers who work ahead of the deadline.

Up to fifteen (15) hours of continuing education obtained during a biennium beyond what is required for that biennium may be carried over to the next biennium. 864 IAC 1.1-15-3(e)

Does the Indiana board pre-approve courses?

A licensee is not required to seek authorization from the Board before completing continuing education, but the course itself must come from an approved organization. Professional engineering related technical and professional societies, accredited teaching institutions, and government agencies qualify automatically; any other provider must apply to the Board, certify that its courses meet the standards in 864 IAC 1.1-15-5, file an annual report by February 15, and submit to Board audit. The Board retains discretion to approve or deny a course at any time.

What content counts toward Indiana PDH?

Courses must be designed to directly enhance a professional engineer's knowledge and skill in providing services relevant to the practice of engineering, alongside the mandatory ethics and Indiana statutes and rules hours.

At least one (1) hour of the continuing education required in each biennium under subsection (a) shall be in ethics applicable to the practice of professional engineering. 864 IAC 1.1-15-3(b)

Which activities count in Indiana?

Courses obtained by distance learning methods qualify, with no cap on distance learning hours. Indiana also grants credit for college coursework (15 hours per semester hour, 10 per quarter hour), teaching or presenting a course for the first time at twice the student rate, patents at 10 hours each, and published papers — though educational outreach, professional society service, and publications each carry their own biennium caps.
