How many PDH does an Idaho PE need?

Professional Engineers in Idaho need 24 PDH per biennium under the board rules that took effect July 1, 2025; land surveyors need 30. Activities should carry technical or professional content that maintains, improves, or expands the skills and knowledge relevant to your practice.

Every professional engineer licensee, including faculty holders, shall meet twenty- four (24) PDH units per biennium of continuing professional development as a condition for licensure renewal. IDAPA 24.32.01, board rules effective 7-1-25

When does an Idaho PE license renew?

Renewal is due on the last day of the engineer's birth month, with those born in even years renewing in even years and those born in odd years renewing in odd years.

Can Idaho PEs carry over PDH?

Engineers may carry forward up to 30 hours of excess continuing education into the next renewal period, which is unusually generous: a strong two years can cover the following renewal entirely.

A licensee may carry forward up to thirty (30) hours of excess continuing education per renewal period. IDAPA 24.32.01, board rules effective 7-1-25

Does the Idaho board pre-approve courses?

The Board does not pre-approve providers or specific courses. It's incumbent upon each engineer to ensure an activity aligns with the Board's guidelines.

What content counts toward Idaho PDH?

Courses should primarily encompass technical or professional content, though there aren't explicit restrictions on other types of content. All courses should be relevant to the practice of the licensee, who may be required by the Board to elucidate how a course is pertinent to their practice.

Which activities count in Idaho?

Distance learning is recognized as an approved method for earning PDHs, with no limitations on the number of hours attainable through this mode.

Other Idaho rules to know

PDHs must span at least two different activity areas, like online courses and self-study, or online courses and patent acquisition. Dual registrants (engineering and land surveying) need to adhere to the rule requirements for each profession. A cap of 3 PDHs per biennial renewal period is set for documented self-study, such as reading materials or published papers, with one PDH earned for every two hours of study. PDH completion records should be retained for a minimum of 6 years. We aids in this by providing instant certificate access and printing upon successful course completion, alongside a secure ten-year online storage for your certificates of completion, accessible anytime through your login account.
