Texas PE Ethics 2026: Real Cases, Current Rules
Last Updated: May 23, 2026
Summary
This course examines the 2026 Texas PE ethics landscape through the lens of the January 7, 2026 TBPELS rules update and five real disciplinary cases from the Board's public record. Topics covered include the biennial renewal cycle, updated inactive status and advisory opinion procedures, the eight canons of 22 TAC Subchapter C, and case-by-case analysis of actual violations and sanctions. Students will apply the canons to realistic decision points and identify procedural obligations that compound or mitigate Board discipline.
Learning Objectives
Identify the 2026 amendments to 22 TAC Chapters 131 and 137 and explain how the shift to biennial renewal, updated inactive status rules, and the overhauled advisory opinions process affect a Texas PE's compliance obligations.
Describe the eight ethics canons in 22 TAC Subchapter C (§§137.51–137.65) and recognize the conduct each canon is designed to govern, including public protection, objectivity, competence, confidentiality, and responsibility to the profession.
Analyze five real TBPELS disciplinary cases to identify the specific canon violations charged, the conduct that triggered each charge, and the factors that influenced the Board's resolution.
Apply procedural rules including the 21-day response requirement, seal-and-date obligations, CE reporting requirements, and the advisory opinions process to evaluate how a practicing PE should respond to common ethical dilemmas.
